Department of Public Safety: Students Allowed to Park in Garages During Thanksgiving Break; Tips to Keeping Your Car Safe

It’s important to protect your car against theft.

Creighton’s Department of Public Safety is allowing students to park their cars in garages while they’re away for Thanksgiving break. Any student can park in the 20th Street and 24th Street garages from Monday, Nov. 22, through Nov. 29 at 4 p.m.

No hangtags or decals will be required. Parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Some more tips on keeping your car safe over Thanksgiving break and through the cold months:

  • Park in a busy, well-lit area, preferably in a location covered by surveillance cameras.
  • Make sure your doors are locked and your windows are closed completely.
  • Don’t leave your keys in the car.
  • Never leave your car running and unattended. Warming up your car on a cold day makes it a prime target for thieves.
  • Be aware of your surroundings when parking your car.
  • Keep valuable items out of view or remove them entirely from your vehicle.
  • Loud alarms deter thieves. If you don’t have one, think of getting one installed.
  • Car trackers can help police find your car if it does unfortunately get stolen.
