More than 4,400 Participate in Campus Climate Survey

From Sept. 14 to Oct. 8, Creighton faculty, staff and students participated in a campus climate survey, administered by partner Rankin & Associates Consulting. The anonymous survey measured current attitudes and behaviors of faculty, staff, administrators and students and the impact of institutional policies and procedures.

More than 4,400 respondents completed the campus climate survey for an overall response rate of 37.8%.

“Our goal was a 30% response rate. We exceeded our goal, and the high response rate becomes important because Rankin and Associates can do secondary analyses on some data to learn more about how subgroups feel on campus,” said Erika Dakin Kirby, PhD, campus climate survey committee tri-chair, professor of communication studies and A.F. Jacobson Chair in Communication.

In order to determine best next steps about how to improve campuses experiences for all, participation was important. Faculty participation was 73.2%; staff and administrator participation was 62.4%; and student participation was 31.3%. All schools and colleges exceeded the response rate goal of 30%.

The survey is key in determining the types of initiatives in which to engage to foster a University environment where there is inclusion and a sense of belongingness. Creighton will use the results of the assessment to inform current and ongoing work regarding issues of campus climate for students, faculty and staff.

Creighton’s campus climate data is being cleaned and readied for analysis. Results and reporting are scheduled to be shared in early 2022 with action plans planned for fall 2022. Stay tuned for results from the survey to be released in early 2022. The findings will be instructive as the University seeks to foster a campus environment that recognizes and honors individual needs, abilities and potential and is grounded in mutual respect, nurtured by dialogue and evidenced by a pattern of civil interaction.
