Express Scripts: New Pharmacy Benefit Manager for 2022 Prescriptions

For the 2022 benefit year, Creighton is changing its Pharmacy Benefit Manger from Optum Rx to Express Scripts. Express Scripts works with pharmacies and organizations like Creighton to make the process of purchasing prescription medication easier and less costly. Here is what to know now:

  • Your prescription drug benefits aren’t changing – only the administration is.
  • Employees enrolled in one of Creighton’s medical plans will receive a welcome packet from Express Scripts in December.
  • Employees enrolled in one of Creighton’s medical plans will receive new medical insurance identification cards from United Healthcare. The new medical insurance cards from United Healthcare will automatically include Express Scripts as our pharmacy benefit manager, meaning you will not need a separate identification card for prescriptions. (Employees enrolled in the Contraceptive Prescription Benefit plan will, as previously, require a separate card to access the Contraceptive Prescription Benefit.)
  • The best way to find out if a medication you’re taking is on the formulary and your 2022 cost for covered drugs is by visiting the pre-enrollment site. You can also call Express Scripts at 877.849.8119.

Our dedicated onsite pharmacy team located at the CHI Health Creighton University – University Campus pharmacy are available to consult with employees to answer questions about their prescriptions and how the change might impact them.
