Andrews Organizes Transportation Van Donation to Support Students and Nonprofit

Pete Andrews, MSSM, emergency manager for the department of public safety, found a way to make a lasting impact in the lives of others.

Through his work in the Creighton Colleagues Program, the yearlong, level two formation opportunity that gives managers and administrators a deeper look at the implications of Ignatian Leadership values in the workplace, Andrews organized a transportation van donation on campus.

CCP focuses on professional service and Catholic Social Teachings and requires participants to complete a final project: create a service project which would help others in the community. The project meets that requirement and supports the already established work of Creighton students, Jacob Idra, a senior finance major, and Sam Lado, a senior political science and pre-law major.

“The project I came up with was to get a van donated from our Transportation Department to the Republic of South Sudan Leaders program, also known as ROSS Leaders. ROSS Leaders is an organization which helps local youth from the local Sudanese community, and was started by two current Creighton University students, Jacob Idra and Sam Lado,” Andrews said.

IMG_2721After consulting Mike Reiner, CPP, SPIPC, assistant vice president of public safety, and Mark Simanek, director of transportation, Andrews was able to secure a donation of an older transportation van to the ROSS Leaders that will allow members of the organization to provide transportation to those in need.

“The Creighton Colleagues Program is designed to give our leaders a deeper look at the implications of Ignatian Leadership values in the workplace. Pete’s project is a perfect example of living our mission, combining good stewardship of our resources with a heart for our students,” said Reiner.

Andrews is a former captain with the Omaha Fire Department and Reiner is a retired United States Air Force Colonel.
