Physical Therapy Celebrates Excellence of Students, Residents, Community

Keynote-web

On July 10, the Department of Physical Therapy united to celebrate the accomplishments of student, residents and community partners. The afternoon’s highlight was a keynote address by Richard Shields PT, PhD, FAPTA, professor and chair at the University of Iowa. As an accomplished researcher and visionary leader, Shields highlighted the evidence demonstrating how movement, the platform of physical therapy practice, impacts health and well-being at the cellular level. Exercise positively influences epigenetic factors in humans, and physical therapists are experts in movement science. Additionally student recipients of scholarships and awards were recognized, new members of the Physical Therapy Leadership Guild were inducted, sites and clinical educators of excellence were honored, and sixresidents presented their research.
