Spirit of Ignatius in Health Care Awards

The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions recognized Michele Jarzynka from Nebraska Medicine, nominated by occupational therapy student Qi Zhang, and Charity Bledsoe of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, nominated by physical therapy student Holly Weimer with the Spirit of Ignatius in Health Care Awards for 2018.

The Spirit of Ignatius in Health Care Award recognizes a clinical instructor/preceptor/fieldwork educator for excellence in forming health care students who are prepared to be change agents for society. The recipients of this award is an authentic example of a discerning and reflective practitioner who takes responsible action on moral and ethical issues on behalf of his or her clients or patients. Through his or her actions, this person demonstrates an appreciation of the Ignatian values identified by the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions as essential for the professional formation of health professionals:

  • Cura Personalis – “personal care”
  • Magis – discerning of the “more”; the “greater good”
  • Men and Women For and With Others
  • Faith That Does Justice

Furthermore, this preceptor is skilled at developing future practitioners who can provide compassionate health care guided by the Ignatian tradition.
