Creating Meaningful Writing Assignments Students Will Want to Write, Sept. 29

Faculty, do you dread essay due dates? Do you find yourself procrastinating grading essays? Join the Center for Faculty Excellence for the “Creating Meaningful Writing Assignments that Students Will Want to Write and You Will Actually Want to Read” seminar on Wednesday, Sept. 29.

Faith Kurtyka, PhD, Department of English, College of Arts & Sciences, will facilitate the program from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (CDT), 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. (MST) on Zoom. Get more information and register.

In this workshop, you’ll learn about creating assignments that go beyond summary or “information dump.” You’ll learn how to assign writing that reflects how professionals in your field actually write and think, uses higher-order thinking skills like argument and analysis, and discourages plagiarism. Most importantly, we’ll talk about how to create assignments that are personally meaningful to students and fun and engaging for instructors to read.
