Jane Stein, PHARMD’92, Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice

Unknown-7Education: PharmD from Creighton School of Pharmacy 1992

Awards: Certified in plant-based nutrition and inducted into Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society

What do you do?

“I teach the skills lab along with Dr. Tim Ivers (PHA 359 - Dispensing and Patient Care I) in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions at the Phoenix Campus. I also serve as an advisor to several of our Hybrid pathway students here in Phoenix.”

Research interest: I would like to explore the possibility of starting a Teaching Kitchen at Creighton. This is a major goal of mine.

Why do you love your job?

“I love my job because I love sharing my passion for pharmacy and helping to develop great pharmacists and strong leaders in our profession.

After graduating from Creighton in 1992, my husband, Edward Stein, PharmD, BA’87, BSPHA’92, PHARMD’93, and I moved to Arizona. I spent my whole career until now hoping we could move back to Omaha so that I could work at Creighton. Due to my husband’s career, we could not ever move back to Omaha. Now that Creighton has opened a Phoenix campus, I feel that I am so blessed because Creighton came to me! I am back home with Creighton, just not in Omaha!”

What do you like about the new Creighton Health Sciences Campus?

“The Phoenix Creighton Health Sciences Campus is truly amazing. The best part about the building design is the brightness that comes in through the windows. I love the fact that there is a chapel in the building to nourish our spiritual side and also a fitness center to provide physical nourishment. I love having all the different department offices spread throughout the seventh floor. I have enjoyed meeting and forming professional relationships with people in other professions. It truly is an interdisciplinary atmosphere!”

Why are you proud to be part of Creighton University?

“I love the Ignatian Values that Creighton embodies. I love to serve others and to teach. I have been to the Dominican Republic with the ILAC program, once as a student and twice as a preceptor. That program teaches one how to care for others in such a unique way. Those experiences have shaped my life and I hope to continue to work with that program.”

What do you enjoy outside of work?

“I love to exercise, crossfit and hiking, learning about plant-based nutrition and improving my Spanish speaking ability. I’m also enjoy spending time with my three children, John, Maggie and Michael, and our two dogs, Ruffles and Molly.”

Community involvement: The Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI), giving talks to community members about COVID-19 and other topics that they wish to learn more about. I also enjoy volunteering time at St. Vincent de Paul and Feed My Starving Children.
