Megan Mankerian-Stem, MS, Director of International Enrollment, Office of Admissions

Megan Mankerian-StemEducation: bachelor of science in business administration in marketing and international service and a master of science in international commerce and policy, both from Valparaiso University

Interests: ”When I’m not working or traveling, I love to spend time at home with my spouse, Andrew, and our three rescue dogs: Wrigley, Phoebe and Oscar. I also have a love for houseplants and have over 150 houseplants throughout our home.”

What do you do?

“I recruit our students who come from outside of the United States (international students and U.S. citizens), as well as international students within the United States. I work with them through the university search, application, and decision processes, as well as help them through the visa application process. Additionally, I work with our partner organizations and governments partners overseas. I often get to travel overseas to help support these endeavors.”

Why do you love your job?

“Working with students overseas means building relationships with the students and their families. I love building these connections and helping families navigate the difficult process of applying and choosing a university that they often don’t get to visit in person. Often, they make me feel part of their family as I work with them through every process to get admitted to Creighton and arrive to Omaha. I also love to travel and experience many cultures, which in turn helps me to understand the changes in each market and driving factors towards wanting to study in the United States.”

Why are you proud to be part of Creighton University?

“The community. From the moment I stepped foot on campus for my interview over five years ago, I could feel and see how supportive the campus community is, from things like holding the door open for each other and saying “hello” to people walking on the mall, to supporting each other through celebrations and tragedies in our lives, everyone truly care about each other. The longer I’ve been on campus, the more I feel and see this community getting stronger, especially in the last 18 months.”

Community involvement: ”I’m very active in a few organizations, including International ACAC and NAFSA, where I am involved as a mentor and often speak on various panels and in presentations about the industry. I also write articles for both organizations on topics including shifts in virtual recruitment, working with agents and partners, being environmentally friendly while traveling, and issues in DEIJ. I also lead and moderate the largest networking association in the industry, as well as a focus group on technology. Locally, I volunteer with Harbor of Hope Dog Rescue.”

Other information: “Fun fact - I have visited 62 countries and once lived in a village in South India for a short while.”
