Betsy Elliot-Meisel, PhD, associate professor of history, is a collaborator on a project that received a Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grant to look into the 1969 voyage of the American tanker, SS Manhattan through the Arctic’s Northwest Passage and its impact on Canada’s Northern Strategy. Elliot-Meisel’s contribution will be a biography of Capt. T.C. Pullen, RCN who was the Canadian observer and ice pilot on Manhattan during the transit in these disputed waters.
