Office of Sustainability Programs August Updates

  • Join us in welcoming Belyna Bentlage, MS, to Creighton University as Creighton University’s new sustainability coordinator. With degrees in Forestry and Natural Resources (Purdue) and Environmental Studies and Anthropology (Loyola University Chicago), she was most recently Research Associate and Outreach Coordinator for the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue, She will be leading our NEW Office of Sustainability Programs located in Creighton Hall, Room 110, and can be reached at (402) 280-2699 or [email protected].
  • In its first semester, the overall goal of the Office of Sustainability Programs is to
    • Raise awareness about existing efforts related to sustainability at Creighton and find opportunities to more fully integrate sustainable mindsets and behaviors into the identity of our campus community;
    • Establish an advisory board to guide the office’s long-term goals and to help develop the office’s strategic plan;
    • Update current sustainability website, launch new social media accounts and create a sustainability fact sheet;
    • Host three forums where students, faculty, and staff are invited to learn about topics related to sustainability. The first forum will be held from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 in Skutt 105.
    • Develop a recycling outreach and education campaign in partnership with Student Life and Facilities Management
    • Build connections in Omaha through the Omaha Area Higher Education Sustainability Alliance. The Office of Sustainability Programs currently serves as the point of contact between OPPD and the Alliance.
    • Continuing to track and report Creighton University’s sustainability performance with AASHE’s STARS program.
