Kyvelidou Awarded Health Science Strategic Investment Grant

SPAHP Kyvelidou_Anastasia-365-webAnastasia Kyvelidou, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, received the Health Science Strategic Investment Fund Faculty Development Grant Program for $50,000. The title of the grant is “Postural control and sensory integration in autism spectrum disorder (ASD)” and will aim to establish a tool for accurate and simple identification of sensory deficits for children with ASD.

ASD is a serious public health issue with significant personal, societal and financial burdens. The cause of ASD is unknown and effective interventions have not been developed. There is a need for simple inexpensive equipment that can be used in the clinic and that aids in the evaluation and treatment of children with ASD. The proposed work could establish a pragmatic evaluation tool to help clinicians treat children with ASD and have a positive impact.

The purpose of the Health Science Strategic Investment Fund (HSSIF) is to maximize the potential of biomedical research at Creighton University, and to provide the maximum local, regional, and national benefit in terms of improved health care and delivery.
