Tim GuttermanTimothy C. Guetterman, PhD, associate professor, Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, Graduate School, recently had an article, “Medical Students’ Experiences and Outcomes Using a Virtual Human Simulation to Improve Communication Skills: Mixed Methods Study“, published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research. The article reports the results of analysis of differential effects of a virtual human simulation to improve healthcare providers skills in empathic provider-patient and inter-professional communication. Data analyzed from a randomized controlled trial with 410 medical students found higher performers tended to be more aware, nonverbal communication and had higher motivation to learn more about communication.
