Vanessa Jewell, PhD, OTR/L, assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy and program director of the Post-Professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program, along with the interprofessional team of: Marion Russell, OTD, assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy; Amy Abbott, PhD, RN, associate professor of nursing; Kristie Briggs, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Economics and Finance and director of the DBA program in the Heider College of Business; Jeffrey Milewski, instructor in the Department of Economics and Finance; Emily Knezevich, PharmD, BCPS, CDE, associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice; and Yongyue Qi, assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, was asked by Senator Justin Wayne of Nebraska District 13 to write a diabetes focused bill. The team wrote a concept proposal for a type 1 diabetes pilot project to help cut Medicaid costs and increase accessibility of health care services and improve child health outcomes.
