Guy McHendry, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies, recently published the 11th edition of The Rhetoric of Western Thought: From the Mediterranean World to the Global Setting. First published in 1976, this text has taught the history of rhetoric to students for decades. McHendry was asked by the publisher to take over the text, updating and reimagining it for students today. Working with co-authors M. Elizabeth Thorpe and Jessica A. Kurr, McHendry built on the foundation of previous editions and added new insights, approaches, theories, and histories that emerged in the decade since the last edition. The new edition gives deliberate attention to the voices, bodies, and humans that are too often forgotten or silenced in the history of rhetoric.
