Chinn, Rump Present at Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy Conference

Unknown-9Lisa Chinn, PhD, resident assistant professor in the department of English, and Jacob Rump, PhD, assistant professor in the department of philosophy, presented papers at the annual conference of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy in Pittsburgh at the end of October. SPEP is the premiere academic venue for work in Continental philosophy and its interdisciplinary intersections with fields such as literature, art, and race and gender theory. Chinn presented a paper, “The Aura’s Limitations: Walter Benjamin in Sonic Aporia,” which investigates the use of the concept of “aura” in the interdisciplinary field of sound studies, a field in which she specializes. Rump presented a paper, “A Phenomenological Epistemology of Al-Saji’s ‘Responsive Hesitation’ as Non-discursive Antiracist Transformation” which investigates how racism can be manifested and might be addressed at the level of habits of bodily comportment.
