Dr. Amanda Holman from the Communications Studies Department is one of five faculty members announced as a 2016 CURAS Summer Faculty Research Fellowship Recipient. Dr. Holman’s project, “Let’s Change the Talk: Examining PSA Messages Aimed to Encourage Parents to Have Conversations With Their Children about Sexual Health and Relationships,” will look at the effectiveness of current public service announcements that are centered on adolescents’ ideal parent-child sex talks.
“The parents’ perspectives will help us determine what message characteristics are most likely to motivate parents to seek more information on the sex talk, as well talk to their children about sexual health and relationships,” Dr. Holman said. The findings from this project will determine which PSAs are best suited for Nebraska media sex-education curriculum and future intervention.
