Timmons_Patricia-plt77080-365-webWhat do you do?

“I teach in Care Management Concept I, where I coordinate the course and clinical, and teach the medical/surgery content. I also teach several clinical rotations in mental health and med/surg as well as preceptorship/capstone. I also work in the hospital a couple days per month at St. Joseph’s hospital and medical center in Phoenix, where I work on a unit that specializes in the care of the medically compromised psychiatric patient.”

What are your research interests?

“I am very interested in substance use disorders and addiction. I’ve become more interested in population health because the patient population I care for are chronically ill and require follow up and ongoing care outside of the hospitalized environment.”

Why do you love your job?

“I love working with students and witnessing their growth. I see students in their first term when they are brand new and nervous, and in one year, I am able to see how far they have come in terms of patient care, critical thinking and developing in the profession. It is really a rewarding role to be part of the education of students so they can then effect patient outcomes.”

Why are you proud to be part of Creighton University?

“I’m proud of the quality of nurses we are able to produce. With current nurse burnout and the shortage of nurses especially during the pandemic, graduating nurses that are passionate about the profession is something that I think we build into our everyday interactions.”

Community involvement: Nursing student senate faculty advisor for the Phoenix branch, working with the students to promote community involvement and volunteerism. Also, I volunteer with the Arizona Nurses Association to plan their RN advocacy day and nurses day at the capital and with the Arizona Student Nurses Association for their mid-year and yearly convention.

What do you like about the new Creighton Health Sciences Campus?

“I like feeling like we are part of the health sciences population. In our previous space we were very secluded, but now we can see students of all disciplines and all the faculty and staff that make it possible.”
