Deepening Your Mission: Jesuits Institutions Serve One Another

Jesuit institutions across the country are part of a close network and support one another during times of difficulty or challenge.

Recently, following Hurricane Ida, Spring Hill College, a Jesuit college in Mobile, Alabama, provided support to friends at Loyola New Orleans University who had been displaced. Although building damage was minimal, the storm caused power outages across campus at the Loyola leaving students searching for alternative housing. While many were able to return home, hundreds more required temporary housing and the fellow Jesuit institution, Spring Hill College, stepped in to help

Spring Hill College President, E. Joseph Lee, PhD, said, “We know that many of our families, friends and loved ones were impacted by the storm and need our support. Whether that impact was physical from storm damage or emotional from storm-related stress and worry, we want to provide our Spring Hill College family with some helpful resources.”

Administrators at Spring Hill and Loyola worked closely to facilitate shuttles between the two campuses on the Gulf Coast. Students in need of housing, including local commuters from New Orleans, are able to reside temporarily in dorms on Spring Hill’s campus for the next few weeks, while taking classes remotely.
