What do you do?

“I provide leadership and supervision to the comprehensive university recreation and wellness programs that include multiple facilities and a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of the Creighton University community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni.

I have the wonderful opportunity to lead professional and student staff who administer our fitness, wellness, sport and open recreation programs.”

Why do you love your job?

“When I think about my best years in college, they all point back to my experiences in the Recreation Center. Academics and the classroom were important in my education, but the out-of-the-classroom experience is where my fondest memories lie. Being able to work in a career that lets me give back to the profession, serve students in an area I’m passionate about, and continue to develop student employees and professional staff are particular joys of mine as well. I believe I have the best job on campus, and I am proud of the work that we do here in Recreation and Wellness.”

Years at Creighton: Start of sixth year

Why are you proud to be part of Creighton University?

“Creighton University has provided me countless personal and professional opportunities. Creighton hired me right out grad school and has been tremendously influential in my growth within higher education, student affairs and collegiate recreation. When I am out and about in the community both in Nebraska and elsewhere, I almost always run into a Creighton grad who has fond memories.”

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I referee women’s college basketball, high school basketball, golf, play video games and enjoy happy hour with friends and colleagues.

Community involvement: Lambda Chi Alpha, chapter advisor; Omaha Empowerment Network, member; NIRSA, director of competition, national basketball, and esports taskforce chair.

Durham was featured in the latest issue of Creighton magazine for his work on esports programming.
