Greenberg and Estep’s Paper Receives ASA’s Eliot Freidson Outstanding Publication Award and Honorable Mention

Pierce Greenberg, PhD, and Kevin Estep, PhD, both assistant professors in the Department of Cultural and Social Studies, had their paper “Opting Out: Individualism and Vaccine Refusal in Pockets of Socioeconomic Homogeneity” recognized as the 2021 Eliot Freidson Outstanding Publication Award from the American Sociological Association’s Section on Medical Sociology.

The Freidson Award is given in alternate years to a book or journal article published in the preceding two years that has had a major impact on the field of medical sociology. The 2021 award was awarded to an article published in either 2019 or 2020. The attached Medical Sociology newsletter (see page 4) announces the award, which was presented virtually at the ASA annual meeting recently.

The same paper also received an honorable mention for the Section on Altrusim, Morality, and Social Solidarity’s Outstanding Published Article Award.
