Rick Witmer, PhD, the Rev. John P. Schlegel, SJ Distinguished Professor of Government and Politics, had his co-authored article “Building Capacity in Indigenous Governance: Comparing the Australian and American Experiences”published in the most recent Australian Journal of Public Administration, Volume 79, Issue 1. The paper compares key aspects of governance structures for Indigenous population in Australia and the United States with a focus on policy coordination and administration. Witmer was part of a team from the U.S. and Australia that generated policy recommendations meant to improve the current Australian model of Indigenous policy support by drawing on the contracting-to-compacting framework currently employed in the U.S.
