Carin Appleget, PhD, assistant professor in the department of education, has co-authored a chapter in the recently published book, Participatory Literacy Practices for P-12 Classrooms in the Digital Age. Appleget and her co-author, Chrystine Mitchell, PhD, contributed the chapter “Preservice Teachers Collaborating and Co-Constructing in a Digital Space: Using Participatory Literacy Practices to Teach Content and Pedagogy.” This chapter includes their personal experience of engaging their preservice teachers with one another across universities and rests on three important concepts: the use of digital literacy practices, the TPACK framework for technology integration, and the use of professional learning communities. These three models work collectively to provide an important foundation for the ways in which teacher educators can and are preparing future teachers for authentic classroom practice with digital literacies.
