The Rev. Andrew Ekpenyong, PhD, (Physics Department) co-authored a paper published in Nature Methods on June 18. Titled “A comparison of methods to assess cell mechanical properties”, the paper is a landmark in the field of physical oncology (physics of cancer) or cell mechanics. The authors were selected by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States, from leading research groups in physical oncology around the world. Research groups from USA (5), France (1), UK (1), Germany (2) made it and the team was aptly named “United Nations of Cell Modulus.” The paper compares data from various methods of measuring cell mechanical properties in view of clinical applications.
