Roman Catholic-Orthodox Relations Event

Demacopoulos event_audienceOn Tuesday, Feb. 27, Dr. George Demacopoulos, Professor of Theology at Fordham University, spoke on the relationship between the Papacy and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. A church historian and founding co-director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center at Fordham University, Demacopoulos provided a critical overview of the history of Roman-Constantinoplitan relations, as well as an analysis of current relations between Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew. The event, which drew a full house that included several members of the general public, witnesses to renewed interest in ongoing Orthodox-Catholic dialogue following a millennium of ecclesiastical estrangement. The presentation was made possible with support from the Kripke Center for Religion and Society, the Amelia B. and Emil G. Graff Chair in Catholic Theological Studies, and All Holy Spirit Greek Orthodox Church of Omaha.
