Physics Student Awarded NASA Research Fellowship

Mason Rhodes, a junior physics major, received a NASA Nebraska Space Grant Fellowship for 2017-2018 to support his research involving high energy quasar outflow systems based on data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The funding from this competitive fellowship program will support his analysis of quasars in the SDSS archival spectral database. The study will provide the most comprehensive test yet of the mechanism that drives these outflowing winds from the blackholes lying at the centers of quasars. The project is being carried out under the direction of Jack Gabel, PhD, Department of Physics.
